We selected a Beam Central Vacuum system for our new home, having done some research online and checking out a stand at the Auckland Home Show. We signed the contract and were ready to go and even had the installer visit us on site to measure up. Our issues started when through the negligence of the Beam installer, the electrical wiring for our central vacuum system was not installed. He did however install the vacuum piping and should have installed the wiring at the same time. We would later learn that he simply forgot.
Our experience has been pretty horrific with the franchise firstly accusing us of removing and sabotaging the job/wiring ourselves, then admitting that their subcontractor "forgot" to install the wiring and then blaming their subcontractor, stating they had further issues across multiple jobs around Auckland, including disclosing that they believed their installer had mental health issues. Whilst we were sympathetic, we do not believe we should have to live the problem nor with their negligence.
In addition we had further issues with the vacuum head and were advised that the vacuum head that they gave us doesn't work on certain carpets (ours included) and that this is an industry wide issue, however when we originally made the purchase we were advised that the head would work on our carpet and their website even marketed the fact that Beam vacuum heads could be used on any surface.
We have been left with a very expensive semi functioning central vacuum system an a less than adequate solution with a "garage remote" to activate the system which only operates intermittently. There has been very little after sales support and Beam simply offered to uplift the central vacuum, leaving us with no option for a central vacuum in our home. We have contacted both Consumer NZ and the Commerce Commission in relation to our issues with Beam.
