Myself and family (wife, kid1 is 2.5years and kid2 is 10months) are here on vacation from Dubai UAE. Our planned to stay from 18th till 22nd September. We lodged at the Empire Apartments.
On the 18th Sep 16 in the evening we went down to the city center for a walk and on our way back with the kids we decided to take a cab. There were 4 taxi cabs lined up by the main road across AOTEA CENTRE. As we approached the cab drivers none of them was willing to go with us.
The first cab in queue to go with us told us out baby prom will not fit in his car and I explained to him its a collapsible baby trolley but he refused anyway and rolled up his windows.
First instance we thought it’s something to do with regulations in Auckland so we decided to walk when one of the cab drivers (an elderly man from Myanmar) called us from behind the queue and drove us back to the hotel. Very kind of him, thanks very much.
Today (19th Sept 16) at about 20:10hours we approached the same place for a taxi and again they all refused and pointed to the first taxi cab (CROWN CABS LTD, CCL 159, Mt Roskill Auckland, 623 611) in the queue.
We approached him and then he said he cannot take us so we will need to get another taxi cab from the street. So we stepped off walking away when my wife and I heard the cab driver telling the others "I JUST DONT FEEL LIKE TAKING THEM" We were shocked. Such reception in Auckland?
About a half meters walk away another cab driver (SABIR KHAN, RELIABLE CABS LTD, No.0210415720) called and insisted we come back. When we got back to the cabs I decided to take details by clicks of the cab driver who refused to take us and also made that statement. This driver on the street yelled saying "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU CAN DO WITH THAT, YOU ARE A VERY STUPID MAN". Then the others supported him saying "LEAVE HIM TO DO WHAT EVER HE WANTS TO DO".
We were shocked to the born. We actually made a 16hour flight from Dubai for this? But thanks to Mr. Khan from Pakistan. He was very helpful and a witness.
I wonder under what criteria these taxi drivers were offered this job. I believe this must go to very beautiful hearted people because there are the front liners of the public. They most interact with the public more.
