Papakura Marae Health Clinic
Fed like animals
Kia ora. I am a solo mum who has been getting assistance through Papakura Marae for the passed year for food and social work regarding family violence and community safety. I live in a housing nz house with my 2 year old daughter. I have felt unsafe for my daughter in and outside of our house so have the problem of taking a taxi to get to and from our destinations. Through out the year i have had countless troubles including 2x serious miscarriages, gang affiliated threats, teenagers hiding on my property from police (sometimes trying to force entry) and family violence, forcing me to get parental protection. Lately i have turned to Papakura Marae for assistance for food as I had recently attended a funeral in the far north of the last of my grandfathers siblings. I was frowned upon and felt intimidated. I was not turned away. I was aware that i had used up my assistance through the Mission but hoped that i could still get help for food some other way which i did. I wasnt given a parcel from the Mission but was given one of the "Other" parcels. Appreciatively i accepted a parcel from Papakura Marae containing Tin food, bread and vegies. Upon opening the first tin food I noticed discolouring and a fowl smell. I then opened the next, and the next. Opening all tins and not eating any of them i continued to frying my vegies to eat with the bread but the bread had big mould spots. I was disgusted in the lady at the Marae (named Sonya) that i felt ill treated. My mana as a maori had ben joked upon. To think that helping a family in need, was like giving scraps to a dog. I did not appreciate being treated like a dog by somebody who is obviously better than me.
