I went to a pet show where you could enter a competition to win $500 of free pet photography. We got an email a week or so later to tell us that we'd won, so we took our dog and friends down to get some photos that we were hoping to use for Christmas cards. When we got there Angela asked us what our budget was, which was a shock as we thought that we'd won $500 worth of photographs, not the opportunity to spend money on photographs. It turned out to be a scam where the $500 only covered the cost of her taking the photographs (which took all of 10 minutes) and then we had to pay to purchase the prints (we were told that we were not allowed to buy digital versions and the cheapest print was $250 for a 4x6inch print, a total rip-off in my opinion! ).
So effectively we'd won the opportunity to spend hundreds/thousands of dollars on some very average photos. When Angela realized that we weren't interested in buying any photos she was quite abrupt and rude with us, which I wasn't happy with. At the end of the session we complained to Angela that we felt we'd been lured to her under false pretenses and eventually she agreed to give us one digital version of one photo by email, which she didn't send to us in high resolution.
Also she didn't get permission from all of us to use our photos for marketing, I explicitly (via email) told her that she didn't have my permission to use the photos for marketing (I didn't want her to benefit from the scam) yet I still get marketing emails from her today with our photo being used in them.
Overall the whole experience left a very sour taste in my mouth and I would highly advise against using Angela's services, especially if she rolls out the "You've won $XXX worth of free photography" scam.
